People also ask

What was Play-Doh originally invented for?

Play-Doh started life in the 1930s as a wallpaper cleaner made by Kutol Products in Cincinnati. In the 1950s, when soot-free heating made wallpaper cleaner less needed, the McVicker family reworked the putty as a toy, and Play-Doh went on sale for kids in 1956.

Is Play-Doh still non-toxic?

Yes. Play-Doh compound is non-toxic and has been made for children for decades. It is not food, though, and it contains wheat, so it isn't suitable for kids with a wheat or gluten allergy.

What happens if a kid eats Play-Doh?

A small nibble is not expected to cause harm because the compound is non-toxic, though it can upset a tummy. If a child swallowed a lot, has a wheat allergy, or seems unwell, call your doctor or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

Can an 18 month old play with Play-Doh?

Our compound cans are labelled for ages 2 and up. Younger toddlers still put things in their mouths, so we recommend waiting until two and always playing alongside them at first.

Is Play-Doh discontinued?

No. Play-Doh is still made today, and new playsets, slime, Blooms flower kits and air dry clay join the classic cans every year.

What are the best Play-Doh sets for toddlers?

For two and three-year-olds, look for a simple starter set, a fun tub with storage, or a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Bluey set. Chunky tools and a few cans are all a first session needs.

How do you keep Play-Doh from drying out?

Put the dough back in its own can as soon as playtime ends and press the lid on until it clicks. Keep cans away from heaters and sunny windowsills. Dough that's a little stiff can often be worked soft again with a few drops of water.

What colors did Play-Doh come in first?

The very first Play-Doh came in one off-white color. Red, yellow and blue followed in 1957, and today there are dozens of colors plus sparkle, confetti and pastel mixes.
